American Soprano Sashell Beck is known for her charismatic stage presence and stylistic versatility. Currently you can see her in some performances of the new musical Piazza Navona by Christof Bergman in Berlin where she is assistant directing and covering the role of Donatella. Last year she she sang the role of Despina in Così fan tutte with the Bergedorfer Musiktage and will be participating again this year in the festival in a gala on June 27th. In November she premiered the role of Ellén in the new opera Ellén by Juan Carlos Villaseñor in Mexico City.
She started off her German musical career in the ensemble of Das Phantom der Oper in Hamburg and since then has gone on to sing many roles for smaller companies. In Berlin, she has played Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos by Strauss and Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart with The Berlin Opera Group. Other signature roles include Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème which she performed with Center Stage Opera, Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Mademoiselle Silberklang in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor, and Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. She also has much orchestral concert experience including Händel’s Messiah, Mahler’s 4th Symphony, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, and Rachmaninoff’s The Bells.
In addition to singing Sashell is beginning to expand her teaching practice. She has taught “Acting in Opera” workshops in Hamburg, Germany and in Mexico City & Pachuca, Mexico and has taught many private students. Her focus is directing the energy to the right things so that the body can release and everything can coordinate in a healthy way. Having a clear idea about what and why you are singing is important in every genre.
She obtained her musical degree from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University Long Beach she and enhanced her studies with Masterclasses by Carol Vaness, Dolores Ziegler, Sheryl Studer, Roberta Alexander, Sheri Greenawald, Neil Semer, Edith Mathis, and Janet Williams. She has also participated in many opera summer programs including Opera Works’ Advanced Artist Program, CoOperative, and The Opera Academy of California. In 2012 she was the first prize winner of the Rio Hondo Young Artist Competition, in 2013 the Beverly Hills Concert Series, and finalist in many more.
